Join us on Thursday, January 13 to learn about the purpose of venture debt, the benefits of leveraging, & overall best practices for your debt strategy.

The Canadian tech ecosystem smashed venture capital investment records in 2021 – the highest annual dollars invested on record (CAD $11.3B as at Q3). Venture debt shadowed this pace, with more capital than ever being deployed.

But what exactly is venture debt?

Venture debt is a type of debt financing leveraged by venture-backed companies to extend their existing runway. This strategy lowers the cost of capital, provides additional time to grow, and ultimately allows companies to raise their next round at a more attractive valuation. Sounds easy, right? Not so fast. Despite widespread adoption and utilization of venture debt across the country, start-ups and scale-ups still have many misconceptions!

In this session, you’ll learn about the purpose of venture debt, the benefits of leverage, and overall best practices for your debt strategy – followed by an AMA with Tony Barkett, Managing Director of RBCx.

Last Call: Deloitte Fast 50 Applications – June 18

Date: 06.18.21

Time:

Location: Canada

The 2021 Technology Fast 50 program launched on April 29 and we expect to see some exciting companies apply this year. The application cut off date is June 18.

This year’s program also announced a new category – Clean Technology. As part of program’s overall commitment to sustainability, we are shining the spotlight on clean technology companies that are helping Canada achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. In the journey to encourage zero carbon emissions globally, Canadian companies are poised to be leaders of this worldwide commitment. Leading the race to 2050 will make an incredible impact on our country’s economy and reputation on the global stage.

Clean technology is defined as any process, good or service that reduces environmental impacts through:

  • environmental protection activities that prevent, reduce or eliminate pollution or any other degradation of the environment;
  • resource management activities that result in more efficient use of natural resources, thus safeguarding against their depletion; or
  • the use of goods that have been adapted to be significantly less energy or resource intensive than the industry standard.

The successful companies that will fall within these guidelines will need to achieve the same elements as the Fast 50 category, but also have a majority of the company’s revenues come from products or services that have a positive environmental impact, being one of the following:

  • Carbon emissions reduction potential
  • Resources circulation (reduce, reuse, and recycle)
  • Environmental preservation and safety

Fast 50 key dates

  • Application period: April 29 – June 18
  • Interview period: June – July
  • Winners’ announcement: November 2021

If you have clients that are leaders in the tech and innovation space, encourage them to apply to the Technology Fast 50 program and be recognized across North America.
